PLASTIC SWEAR JAR CHALLENGE 2018

by Becky Mendoza April 05, 2018

This Earth Day, April 22, 2018, Changing Tides Foundation will launch our 2nd annual Plastic Swear Jar Challenge which will run for 1 week. Last year, hundreds of people from across the globe took the challenge and the results were outstanding! This year, we're giving all who participate a chance to win a GoPro Hero 6 and a bunch of cool eco-friendly prizes. All you have to do is take the challenge.

This year, we are asking you to take an extra step and post a video of yourself saying "I SWEAR' or 'I SWEAR TO BE AWARE.'

The objective of the Plastic Swear Jar Challenge is to bring awareness to the amount of single-use plastic waste we create on a daily basis.

For purposes of the challenge, a "SWEAR" is each time you use or purchase an item of single-use plastic.

Here's how the challenge works (watch video here):

1. Designate a jar or container as your Plastic Swear Jar and decorate it.

2. For 7 days, keep track of all of your swears:  1 swear = $1.00.

3. Let us know you're participating by posting your own 'I SWEAR' video and enter to win a GoPro Hero 6 and other eco-friendly prizes by sharing your progress on social media using #PlasticSwearJar#ISwearToBeAware and by following and tagging @changingtidesfoundation.

At the end of the 7 days, you have the option to donate the funds to Changing Tides Foundation via our Plastic Swear Jar Fundraiser page which will be used towards our environmental initiatives.

Last year, participants included top athletes in surf, snow and wakeboard such as: Stephanie Gilmore, Tatiana Weston-Webb, Elena Hight, Robin Van Gyn, Helen Schettini, Rosy Hodge, Leah Dawson, Rochelle Ballard, Dax McGill, Samantha Sibley, Liz Clark, Lea Brassy, Bec Gange, Sian Hurst and more. All of these athletes created their jars, kept track, posted on social media and have since donated the funds to our Plastic Swear Jar fundraiser.

The Plastic Swear Jar Challenge is a fun family, in-office and community game, giving people an opportunity to create healthy competition with others and see how they progress on reducing their use of single-use plastics. Awareness is the catalyst to change and together we have the power to create change because together we are better.

Join us for 7 days, starting April 22nd on our journey to make better choices for the future of our planet!
