Changing Tides Foundation has returned from the NY Fundraising Tour, which included a raffle powered by Patagonia Bowery and silent art auction at the Tradesman Bar in Bushwick as well as the Juxtapoz Magazine’s Surf Craft Auction with a special exhibition at Mana Contemporary in Jersey City on October 15. The Surf Craft Auction is currently still running on Paddle 8 until October 21 and all proceeds will benefit Changing Tides Foundation and Waves For Water’s efforts in the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. This was the team’s first fundraising tour on the east coast.
Overall, both events were a great success and attracted surf socialites and artists such as Taylor Steele, Todd DiCiurcio , Paul Wackers, Pat Berran, and Benjamin Keating and promotional support for the events from Tyler Breuer and Patagonia Bowery. The CTF team was popped up at both events, connecting with guests and offering information about current projects, promoting reduction of plastic waste pollution and offering solutions in the form of the sale eco-friendly reusable items such as bamboo utensils, beeswax wraps, reusable bags, glass straws and more. The team also raised funds by offering their reusable stainless steel cups for a $10 donation, which were a crowd pleaser. The Surf Craft event also included a special virtual reality surf and art experience by the team at Temme Media. All proceeds from the fundraising tour will go directly towards the CTF DISASTER RELIEF: CARIBBEAN project, which is aimed at providing aid and support for island communities in the Caribbean after the 2017 hurricane season. Funds raised will provide materials necessary to address the immediate and specific needs of each individual island community, focusing on necessities such as food, water, power, sanitary, hygienic and medical needs as well as materials and labor necessary to rebuild.
Altogether, the Changing Tides Foundation raised over $3,000 at the Tradesman Bar event between the art auction, Patagonia raffle, eco-friendly product sales, drink specials and donations and are expected to raise several thousand more through the Surf Craft Auction on Paddle 8 which ends on October 30, 2017.
