Empowering Girls
Our Surf & Skate Mentorship Programs are our flagship initiatives designed to uplift underserved teen girls and young women. Through surfing & skating, mental wellness coaching, women’s & menstrual health, and connection with women mentors, our programming creates safe spaces for girls to feel seen, supported, and confident in themselves and their abilities.
Our Surf Mentorship Program has reached girls in Panama, the Dominican Republic, Peru, El Salvador, and Southern California—including a San Diego cohort built specifically for unhoused and housing-insecure girls through our partnerships with Monarch School, GroundSwell Community Project, and Casa de Amistad.

Changing Tide’s mission extends far beyond the shoreline. Our environmental education programs and community campaigns help people understand their relationship with the ocean & local communities, food systems, waste streams, and climate. And most importantly, give them tools to take meaningful action.

Local Programs in San Diego
In San Diego, our work centers on expanding ocean access and providing safe, community-centered spaces for teen girls to learn, grow, and connect. Through surf & skate mentorship, environmental activations, and collaborations with local partners, we help young women develop confidence and strong relationships with both themselves and their community.
San Diego has become a key home for our surf and skate mentorship programs, and donor support ensures these cohorts remain fully accessible to girls who face significant barriers—including cost, transportation, and even basic access to the beach and local communities.
